A start of a New Season in the Premier League

It’s what we all have been waiting for after a long break of almost 3 months. The English Premier League kicks off on 15th Aug 2009 and United start the defence to their crown a day later. Like a start to every new season – this one holds a lot of promise, a bagful of surprises and the emergence of a few starts. The “Big 4” haven’t spent much in the transfer market, though they have let a few of their big stars find their way to new pastures. Notable among them would be the “Real Deal” clinched by Madrid for C. Ronaldo and Xabi Alonso.

Let’s see what this season has to offer – Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal are favorites to stay on top of the heap. However, the lurkers will do well if they can manage to hold their nerve in the fag end of the league – Aston Villa, Everton and the big spending Manchester City may spring a surprise. Having said that, it’s for all to see if the ‘oil money’ of City can being them a Champions League berth, leave alone a grandstand finish! For all the wealth of talent they have managed to procure it remains to be seen how they perform as a team.

Carlo Ancelloti has inherited a good Chelsea team and they just about managed to pip United in the season opener – Charity shield game – through pens. His wealth of experience with AC Milan in the Serie–A will pay rich dividends to the Blues. Liverpool will stutter, Arsenal will be their usual self and end up 3rd or 4th again this season. That brings us to our Favourite – Manchester United. Ronaldo – gone. Tevez – gone, no worries. Bigger names have left the club in the past under Sir Alex but that has not stopped United from winning trophies. He knows how to use the resources at hand and gets them to perform to their potential. The acquisition of Valencia is good. I feel the deal of the Season will be – Michael Owen. I was surprised by the move and feel Sir Alex has pulled one out of the bag here. Michael is a poacher and will get the goals we sorely missed last season. With inform Rooney up front and Berbatov around this time around United will surely pump in the goals.

Be sure to catch United’s games with us at the MUFCM screenings. One is just round the corner on 29th August against the gunners. See you there and cheers to the new season. Lets make it a memorable one – 4 in a row and number 19! Won’t that be exciting?
GLORY GLORY MAN UNITED!!!
