Man Utd v/s Man City – It's Derby time

The big spending blues take on the champions in what could be their acid test in their quest to be in the big league. All the money pumped in could add to naught if the result is not in their favour. Of course if you are intending to break into the Top 4 you need to beat them. It will be an exciting game – and a very hard fought derby game to boot. It is not easy to pick a winner here. Man City will be geared to prove the blue side of Manchester as the better team – Yeah right!!

The pressure will be on Mark Hughes to put one over his mentor and the City boys will feel the heat from a partisan crowd at Old Trafford. He is missing his main strikers in this game and will look forward to Bellamy, Ireland and Barry to provide the impetus. I wonder if a certain Argentinean will grace the pitch!! On the contrary Sir Alex has his squad in place, the notable absentee being Rio at the back. Evans and Vidic will hold fort, well supported by Evra and Gary Neville. We will miss Scholes in midfield. Fletcher has matured tremendously in the past 2 years and will definitely start. The experience of Giggs will be vital in this game and I see him being the driving force in midfield.

Now, you may be wondering where I can catch this game. Fret no more! For details simply click this link - http://www.manutdmumbai.org/. The Manchester United Fan Club of Mumbai will be organising a screening for its fans at Dadar. So all you die-hard fans make a bee-line for Avon Ruby – that’s where it’s at. For registration simply log into the Fan Club’s forum on Orkut - http://www.orkut.co.in/Main#Community?cmm=53483970

This is the only place you can catch the action live on a big screen with die-hard fellow Red Devils screaming and chanting till their throats go sore!!

Glory Glory Man United!!!!

A start of a New Season in the Premier League

It’s what we all have been waiting for after a long break of almost 3 months. The English Premier League kicks off on 15th Aug 2009 and United start the defence to their crown a day later. Like a start to every new season – this one holds a lot of promise, a bagful of surprises and the emergence of a few starts. The “Big 4” haven’t spent much in the transfer market, though they have let a few of their big stars find their way to new pastures. Notable among them would be the “Real Deal” clinched by Madrid for C. Ronaldo and Xabi Alonso.

Let’s see what this season has to offer – Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal are favorites to stay on top of the heap. However, the lurkers will do well if they can manage to hold their nerve in the fag end of the league – Aston Villa, Everton and the big spending Manchester City may spring a surprise. Having said that, it’s for all to see if the ‘oil money’ of City can being them a Champions League berth, leave alone a grandstand finish! For all the wealth of talent they have managed to procure it remains to be seen how they perform as a team.

Carlo Ancelloti has inherited a good Chelsea team and they just about managed to pip United in the season opener – Charity shield game – through pens. His wealth of experience with AC Milan in the Serie–A will pay rich dividends to the Blues. Liverpool will stutter, Arsenal will be their usual self and end up 3rd or 4th again this season. That brings us to our Favourite – Manchester United. Ronaldo – gone. Tevez – gone, no worries. Bigger names have left the club in the past under Sir Alex but that has not stopped United from winning trophies. He knows how to use the resources at hand and gets them to perform to their potential. The acquisition of Valencia is good. I feel the deal of the Season will be – Michael Owen. I was surprised by the move and feel Sir Alex has pulled one out of the bag here. Michael is a poacher and will get the goals we sorely missed last season. With inform Rooney up front and Berbatov around this time around United will surely pump in the goals.

Be sure to catch United’s games with us at the MUFCM screenings. One is just round the corner on 29th August against the gunners. See you there and cheers to the new season. Lets make it a memorable one – 4 in a row and number 19! Won’t that be exciting?
GLORY GLORY MAN UNITED!!!

We all have been waiting for this one ,
27 Th  May And another European season will be over . You can't predict the winner , But one thing that you can assure is This one will be hell of a match . They all say The Champions League Finals are Boring , But Sir Alex Ferguson has tipped this one to be a cracker to say the least .
The European Campaign this year has seen some great matches . Bayern Munich Beating Sporting Lisbon on an aggregate of 12-1 over two legs in the Knockout Stages . The Legendary Quarter Final  Between Liverpool and Chelsea . Liverpool Knocking out Real . It has been Fantastic .

Team Mentalities :-

Manchester United :-  Sir Alex Ferguson Must have his team in Mind , Who will play Who will Not , 10 out of 11 pick Themselves , With a toss between Tevez and Berbatov .With Fletcher Not playing due to Stupid , Stupid refereeing . United will play Anderson to Hold the Midfield and Provide a bit of Energy . But United's trump card  will be Counter Attacking Football .
All it takes a few seconds to score a goal .
I predict  that united Will Play a 4- 5- 1 Formation .

Barcelona :-  barca Sure have  Some Defensive Worries , With AbidalSent off against chelsea . They will have to play  ageing Slyvinho against likes of C.Ronaldo which won't do any tricks for them , But now advantage with Barca is their three pronged attack , and more attacking Midfield . And of course the Lethal Weapon L . Messi . If They use the same strategy as United employed against chelsea last year , Playing Ronaldo AgainstEssien . And If they play Messi Against O'Shea . He could do some damage . One of Their Trump cards will be Xavi . He can keep the ball , Pass it well and united will have to do something to stop him . Barca Like to keep the ball and play with the Ball , Whereas United have one of the best counter attack. United would like to grab the ball as soon as possible and not allowbarca with their fanatics !

Men To watch

United :-
C . Ronaldo :- The World Player Of the year can Run Barca Rigged With his step overs , All he needs to do is score one like he did against Porto .

Nemanja Vidic :- Undoubtedly the Best Defender in the world  this season .

Wayne Rooney :- I bet my last penny He will try and Hold Messi Rather than Go On Attacking , After all as he says " Anything For the team , Gaffer "

Barcelona :-
L. Messi :- If United have World Player of The year , Barcelona have the strongest contender for next WPoY award .

Xavi :- He can hold their Midfield well as well as Run forward to grab on opportunities  !

C. Ronaldo Vs Messi  Will it be  ?

Read it Up .

This article Surely Underestimates the two of them , but Everybody is going Gaga over Ron And Messi . No Its not C. Ronaldo Vs Messi . Its Manchester United Vs FC Barcelona

Injuries And Suspensions :-

Hargo , Brown ( Long Term Injuries ) , Foster ( 9 Weeks ) , Fletcher ( Stupid Red Card )
Ferdinand ( Will be Fit , SAF says that )
Marquez , Milito ( Long term Injuries ) , Alves , Abidal ( Suspended)
Iniesta :- Back On Track
Henry :- No updates now , but Would , And Would Nots are doing Rounds

Referee :-
With some of the " Worst " Decisions in Champions league Semi Finals This Year I expect UEFA to look into the matter , And After Striking out Some of the possibilities , We are Left with Mr. Busacca Massimo TheMost Probable guy to referee the Final, Switzerland . Who Refereed the Second leg of Porto - Manchester United at Dragao .

Match Buildup :-
I have predicted many a things , But in Football and in particular CL final You cant Predict anything . Did Anyone predict Liverpool to win at Istanbul in after Being 3-0 Down ?
Did Anyone predict United to win In one of the Greatest of Comebacks , Scoring twice in Added time  ?
All 22 Of them are going to play their Hearts Out , Its not Everyday you get to play in champions league final . You Just have to go and enjoy the match . United Want to prove that they have been the  best And they want to seal it off by wining their fourth European Title , And Barca Want to take their tally to 3 titles , With playing beautiful football whole season long . With Their Four of their best attackers .
Both The teams have a point to prove their .
Rome was not bilt in one day , But it will be Shocked in few hours .

Where Can You watch the match ?

My Predictions : -  FC Barcelona 1 - 2 Manchester United ( 90 Minutes )
However close it may be , I think United will overpower barcelona With strong counter attack     and at the same time Barcelonas weak defence . United Will overpower them .
It will be " Glory Glory Man United " heard at Rome

Manchester United worth their weight in Gold - 18 Carat

Yes, an unusual title for this write-up! But who will dare argue, Manchester United have proven beyond doubt that they are the best in the English Premier League once again or should I make it thrice again! Haha. They have proven to be the giants of the EPL by winning their 18th title and once again achieved a hat-trick to boot. They won it 3 years running in that magnificent period from 1999-2001, where they won the Champions League in 1999. This time around they have won the Champions League in 2008 and can make it 2 in row if they get the better of Barcelona in Rome.United didn’t have the best start to their campaign and drew at home to Newcastle (now relegated), Darren Fletcher got the equalizer in that game. Fletcher has been huge this season, so has Giggs, Rio, Vidic, Rooney, Tevez, Evra…in fact the whole team. It would be difficult to single out 1 player as all have contributed in every game. How can one forget the Kiko Macheda, who won us the games in the business end of the season against Aston Villa and Sunderland? We all knew it would a tough act for Ronaldo to follow on his 2007-08 season where he swept away all the awards that were to be won. Even though he began playing late this season he almost won the golden boot alongside Anelka (tipped him off the post by scoring against Sunderland this Sunday). Well that’s chicken-feed compared to the prize he is aiming for at Rome.

Chelsea have been blowing hot and cold under Scolari and were never going to be a threat to United, by the time Hiddink was in charge it was all but over for the blues. Liverpool – were the main title rivals this season and were in the running till the New Year began. They were on top of the league in the year end (with United away on Club World Cup duty). However, all the cheer for Merseyside was brushed aside in the New Year when United went top of the table. From then on there was no looking back as United perched themselves firmly at the summit.

What an amazing achievement, a hat-trick of trophies and a record equaling haul of trophies – 18! Liverpool has company, but the way I read it – its 11-0! Get a hold of that Merseyside. Sir Alex has no immediate plans of retirement and plans for no 19 are already in place. “Next year we are going for it again. It's a great side, a great squad. I could have picked two teams today. "..that’s Sir Alex Ferguson for you.

Club World Champions and League Cup Winners

The stage couldn’t get bigger and the teams tougher. This is the place where one team – after winning the trophy could then call themselves “Kings of Club Football”. Manchester United had missed out on in 1999 and were all geared up this time around, they won the Intercontinental cup that year. The Champions of England and the Champions of Europe were on a mission to conquer the world – their playground – Japan!

The Premier League has been grueling enough, what with the FA Cup, Carling Cup and Champions League games. United would have loved to relax a bit. But when you are Manchester United and when you have Sir Alex Ferguson at the helm, you stop at nothing. The finals was not a cake walk and Liga de Quito proved no push-over, which saw Nemanja Vidic see red, though 10 man United went on to win it by a solitary goal. A win nonetheless and another trophy in cabinet, a job well done and now back to the grind. Hey, hold on we are in the running for the Carling Cup too…After losing 1-0 to Derby in the Semi-final first leg, United romped home 4-2 at Old Trafford to set a date with Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham on March 1. The game was surprisingly goalless in the scheduled 90 minutes and even in extra time. It took a magnificent display by Ben Foster in goal to trump Tottenham 4-1 in the penalty shoot-out.

This is their 3rd League Cup and 3rd major trophy this season – Charity shield, Fifa World Club cup and the Carling cup. The class of 2008-09 is truly best of the best and they have many more goals to achieve. I must admit, it never felt so good being a United fan.

GLORY! GLORY! Man United!!

Top of the World, Top of the EPL!

3 weeks into the New Year and United are sitting pretty at the Summit in the English Premier League. The defending champions of the EPL, Europe and World club football, find themselves in familiar territory. They have gone 10 games without conceding a goal, the defence, has been their mainstay, especially Vidic and Evans (injured!). United may not be pumping in the goals right, what matters are the results and they have managed to do just that. The goals will come for sure.

Every team that takes on United puts up a brave fight, this is a challenge you face when you are the defending Champions of the “best league in Europe”. Many of our key players are either under the surgeon’s knife or nursing injuries. The medical team at old Trafford has their hands full with the spate of injuries to the players. Add to that the injuries sustained in the Semi Finals of the Carling Cup and you are left wondering, whats gonna happen. Rooney (pic below) has been absolutely superb this season is injured and will return only in Feb. The others include (a star cast!) Rio, Evra, Evans, Brown, Rafael, Anderson, Nani and Park. Shoot!!

Well, there is no dearth of talent in the United squad. Sir Alex is too experienced to let injuries hamper his quest in maintaining his team’s No. 1 position. It is exciting for all the supporters and fans to know that we are in contention to win 4 trophies (early days yet, but what the heck! This is United we are talking about) this season. It will be one remarkable feat if United manage to do that. Geez, as a die-hard Manchester United supporter, I can’t wait for the drama to unfold.

MUFCM will surely be ready for that and screenings for the big games will be scheduled so that no one misses out on the action. Be sure to check our website for more details (http://www.manutdmumbai.org). You don’t want to miss out on anything and MUFCM we will ensure you are a part of the excitement if not history! If ever there was a place, in Mumbai, to catch the game live, in an atmosphere that is truly “electric” it’s got to be with the Manchester United Fan Club of Mumbai.

Special Screening - Manchester United v/s Chelsea

It's amazing to think how football brings people, countries, and even cultures closer. This time, two English clubs, without even knowing it, brought the people of Mumbai together, for a noble cause...

"Be the change you want to see" - Mahatma Gandhi

Rarely does one witness a scene such as this in India, that too for a game of football. The screening of the big game between Manchester United and Chelsea in Mumbai on Sunday was a big hit, with a number of fans clad in their team’s colors flocking to the location with flags, banners, scarves and a lot of energy!

The event, organized by MFFCA along with Goal.com, was held in order to raise some funds for the victims of the Mumbai terror attacks, and by way of the screening, over Rs. 11,000 was raised on the night alone, and has been passed on to an NGO working for the terror victims.

The event took off even before it began, with many supporters turning up over an hour before kick-off, singing and cheering their team on in advance. By the time the game had started, close to 100 people were packed inside the hall, with a lot of noise being made now. As expected, more than half the people were Manchester United supporters. Most of the rest were Chelsea fans, and the numbers were made up by a sprinkling of a few Arsenal and Liverpool fans here and there.

There were a few girls in the house as well, when the match kicked off, proof of the fact that it’s not only men that follow football in India. The energy in the hall was contagious, with chanting, flag-waving, and a lot of friendly (read unfriendly) banter amongst rival fans. United fans had a gala time taunting the Blues supporters about the Champions League final last season, and were in raptures when Ronaldo headed a quickly taken corner into the back of the net just before half time. However, the goal was disallowed, and Chelsea fans responded with loud chants, taking the mickey out of the Red Devils.

However, only moments later, they got their back, as Vidic scored from the retake, and the United fans brought the house down with loud cheers and continuous chanting! It was certainly the most exciting and entertaining two minutes of the night, as the second half was pretty one-sided, leaving most Chelsea supporters dejected.

Despite the banter, and the slightly humiliating scoreline for Chelsea, the fans showed great spirit, and all stayed back after the game for group photographs, and the usual post-match discussions. Sunil Thakur, of the Manchester United Mumbai fan club, remarked, “I think everyone really appreciated the whole event, and the cause for which it was organized. The coming together of all four fan clubs in order to do a little bit for Mumbai was a very nice gesture, and even if the contribution isn’t huge in terms of money, I think it’s the thought that counts.

It sure does, and one could see the satisfaction on each fan’s face when they left the hall, that they’d done their bit in coming together and making a contribution to a cause dear to their heart. As for the screening itself, it was fabulous, with an atmosphere befitting the match, and a lot of fellowship among fans who had never met each other before. Thakur continued, “It was the best screening I’ve ever attended bar the Champions League final in May, and the cause made it even more special.

All in all, the fan clubs of Mumbai have set a wonderful example, in maximizing the enjoyment out of a big match, and showing fans all across the country how football can bring people together. In fact, there will be more joint screenings coming up in the city, for the other big four clashes coming up.
